Grace Gillespie Carter

Grace Gillespie Carter has been writing for most of her life. When she was a girl she was inspired by Louise May Alcott’s "Little Women." She cut paper dolls out of Montgomery Ward catalogs and gave each doll a unique personality, with special talents and flaws. She invented stories, published a short story in "Wee Wisdom" when she was twelve, and at the age of fifteen, she won first prize in a writing contest sponsored by "Venture Magazine."

"City of Three Rivers" is an epic historical novel, set in Dayton, Ohio between the years of 1877 and 1924. Once again Grace created fictional family trees, characters, and relationships. She watched as a story emerged—one that fascinated her and seemed worth the telling—and soon she determined which characters she cared about the most, when she wanted the story to begin (and when to end) and what city it should take place in.
