S. D. Gates

S. D. Gates was born in Australia and immigrated with her family to the United States. She spent the majority of her younger years in Hyde Park, on the South Side of Chicago. After graduating from George Mason University where she received a degree in Nursing, she joined the military. She then attended the University of Washington where she earned a Master's Degree in Nursing. Upon leaving the military she moved with her husband and two boys to California.

It wasn't until several years ago, she discovered a talent for writing, which had been suppressed, pushed away because of the demands of work, raising two boys, and contending with the endless piles of laundry. Her first book "From Cornflakes to Eternity", published in 2014, is a heart-wrenching story about a haunted pediatric hospital, and is very loosely based on her experiences of working with pediatric trauma patients. It was S. D. Gates' way of bringing joy through her words and imagination, to children who have undeservedly suffered in life and guiding them to the "Nice Place", where there is no pain, only happiness, delight and friendship.

Her second book, "The A - Z Survival Guide to Life" was actually written during a blogging challenge, and is a compilation of humorous and not so humorous posts written to her boys, who to her surprise and delight, have turned into wonderful young men. S. D. Gates was encouraged by her blogging friends to offer up these posts in a book format, and for once she listened and followed through.

S.D. Gates is working on her third book, which she hopes to have available within the next year. She is busily lobbying for help with the laundry, and if she is successful, her third book might be available sooner. We shall see.
