My wife and I have lived in West Berkshire for over 40 years, bringing up three daughters. With the Thames, Berkshire Downs and Chilterns close by, we’ve always been keen walkers. However, any family walk also had to be child-friendly - not too long and, preferably, including a playground and an ice cream ! So we collected suitable routes. Time moved on and with three grandchildren living in South Oxfordshire, we’ve re-visited these family walks.

A dozen of our favourites were published as “Weekend Walks West of Reading”. This proved popular and so a second collection was published in “Weekend Walks South of Oxford”, followed by a third in "Weekend Walks by the Thames". I really enjoyed choosing the walks, photographing places of interest and researching their history and hope that anyone trying out these short scenic strolls has a great time too.
