Born in Toronto. Spent early childhood in Lanark, Ontario (pop 900 before it burned down). Sent to board at posh Ashbury College in Ottawa then away to Long Island, NY to finish semi-posh high school there. Mother had fortune teller advise her before I was born that I'd die in the navy under a foreign flag so she wasn't happy when I told her I planned to return to Canada and join the navy! Long story shortened, I squandered opportunities as Canadian Army officer cadet, then RCAF Leading Aircraftsman, drove a taxi, installed telephones, made maps, sold Fuller brushes and then headed south for a career in the USAF. That service being more tolerant than its Canadian counterpart, I went the distance there with tours of duty in Newfoundland, Maine, Kansas City, Arkansas, South Carolina, Florida, New York (on Long Island!), Guam and Maryland. My time in Viet Nam was more than just a tour like the rest so I wrote about it. Moved to extreme upstate NY after retirement and was even a TV weatherman (part-time) for awhile. I'm now pretty much out of it - retired with my calico cat to a house up the hill, hidden in the Adirondack woods. Most Sundays I can be found in the Canadian Legion in nearby Hemmingford Quebec. Update: Cat eaten by coy-dogs 9/6/15.
