Emmi Smid

Emmi Smid is a Dutch illustrator as well as author of picture books, currently living and working in Arnhem, the Netherlands. She is a keen believer in breaking taboos using the power of stories. As Emmi spent a while studying and living in the UK, she writes her books in both Dutch and English.

"Children are some of the wisest creatures on this planet. I believe that children’s books are the perfect vehicle to introduce young children to difficult, profound topics, without feeling like they are being lectured to. Hence I enjoy designing picture books that tackle social taboos and highlight current global topics. However, I don’t underestimate the power of humour and light-hearted messages in books!"
