Dr. Mary E. Weems is a Black author, poet, playwright and artist-scholar of education whose been writing since the early age of thirteen. Her work is inspired by the human condition and in the main by what is happening to Black people in America around issues of race, gender and class. To date, Weems has authored or edited thirteen books. Her most recent work "Blackeyed: Plays and Monologues" is a compilation of work she's written over the last fifteen years. Dr. Weems has created a one-woman show which includes several excerpts from the book titled "Black Notes" which she will begin touring with in February of 2015.
