Donna Barkley was born in St. Louis, Missouri. Her father was an engineer who moved his growing family all over the country as Donna grew up. She is an alumnus of AVHS in Lancaster, California. Donna has three younger brothers, three grown children and one grandchild. After two years at a local college Donna traveled to France with a back pack and attended the Alliance Francaise in 1974. It was then that Donna started her first journal. She later became a technical writer. Her first published novel was, “Hard Times in Red Grape” and it was selected by a history professor in New Jersey for a class midterm project. The professor asked students to read and prepare a paper. Students discussed the book as protest literature, comparing, “Hard Times in Red Grape.” with “The Grapes of Wrath” and “Common Sense”. Students regarded the work as timely and passionate." Her second book is a mystery set in the Sequoias. “A Tale of Two Fish” is a story set in the perfect vacation spot. Long Lake is in trouble due to over development, corruption, murder, and big business. Donna Barkley Fleming makes her home in San Juan Capistrano, California.
