Andrea Pieroni

Andrea Pieroni (born 1967) is an Italian-German ethnobiologist and a full ethnobotany professor at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy, where he was the rector from 2017 to 2021. After receiving a Laurea from the University of Pisa in 1993, he earned his doctorate in Life Sciences (Dr. rer. nat.) from the University of Bonn in 1998. He was a research assistant at the University of London from 2000 to 2003 and lectured at the University of Bradford until 2009. Between 2008 and 2010, he was vice-president and president of the International Society of Ethnobiology. He is the founding editor of the Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine (Springer Nature group) and is an honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania. His research focuses on the foraging and food heritage of minorities and diasporas in the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and the MENA.
