Marty Boller

Hi. I'm Marty Boller. I'm a recovering 3-B pastor on my to becoming a contemplative activist.

What is a recovering 3-B pastor, you ask? Just as it is with any addiction, one must come to the realization of a problem before one can be set free. So, in order to become a "recovering" 3-B pastor, one must first understand that you've been a 3-B pastor for most of your pastoral career! A 3-B pastor, you see, is any pastoral shepherd who is addicted to measuring his or her "success" (or failure) in ministry using three major components of "success" utilized in many of our churches, large and small, across North America. We like to call this triad of components, the 3-B's:

(B)uildings.

(B)ucks.

(B)utts in the seats.

Today, after 30 years in pastoral ministry, I've chosen to leave the pressures of the 3-B's behind me, joining with others who are looking to simplify their walk with Jesus, aligning with what some say is a global movement toward contemplative activism. Simply put, a Christ-centered contemplative activist desires to step out of the busy traffic of what one author calls "Church, Inc." and better align themselves with Jesus of Nazareth; who quite honestly, evaluates our effectiveness in ministry much better than anyone else!

My wife, Sandy, and I are now serving the larger body of Christ as contemplative coaches to pastors and spiritual directors to all who are looking for Christ-centered direction in their lives. We are available for individual spiritual direction, group direction, and retreats, workshops, and seminars focused on helping individuals, groups, and churches focus on the themes of contemplative activism.
