Richard Bard

Craving adventure, and deciding that the best use for a psychology degree was to go offshore and chase salmon, Richard Bard bought an old fishing boat of doubtful integrity and optimistically took to the ocean. Twenty-five years of fishing along the coasts of Alaska and Washington followed. Then, using his captain’s license, he took up delivering sail and power boats to places as far-flung as the North Atlantic, the Caribbean, Panama, Japan, and Australia.

Throughout, writing has been his second calling---first as a journalist, including two years as West Coast bureau chief for National Fisherman; then as author of full-length books, with three published and more in the works. Working on the ocean, then coming home to produce sea adventure stories for others to enjoy makes a good balance.
