Cheryl A Cunningham PE

Cheryl Cunningham is a professional civil engineer and has a passion to help get children, particularly girls, interested in engineering as a career. She has practiced civil engineering for over 30 years and noticed that the percentage of women in her field has not increased. She believes that part of the problem is that children don't know what engineers do. So she and her sister, Judy Cunningham, a retired teacher and literacy advocate, set out on a mission to create a series of children's books entitled, "I Can Be An Engineer". Each book tells a story about a little girl who encounters a problem and then solves it using strategies and skills of an engineer. Cheryl's mission is to spread the word: Engineers dream, imagine, design, and create. That's what makes their job so great!

Cheryl holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. She is the president of Parsons Cunningham & Shartle Engineers, Inc., a civil engineering company in Indiana.
