Digna Irizarry Cassens, MHA, RDN, CLT, FAND
I am the sole proprietor of Cassens Associates-Diversified Nutrition Management Systems, a micro-company offering focused services to select, specialized care communities & home health. My credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree in Foods & Nutrition from Barry University. Miami FL, a Dietetic Internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, a Master degree of Healthcare Administration from the University of La Verne CA & a Lifetime Teaching Credential with the California Community Colleges. After over 40 years working in senior management in large long-term care companies, I retired to become an author and Indie publisher, and met my lifelong dream of being an artist and am a self-taught acrylic painter. My specialty is creating simple delicious, healthy, and nutritious recipes, and I claim over eight hundred original recipes in my personal collection. Having already published nineteen books and journals, I plan to publish several more recipe books. Taking advantage of my specialty in food production and nutrition has been a great benefit in creating simple, delicious recipes that promote health and wellness. Because of my passion for food and love of cooking I have published nineteen books, twelve being recipe books. I am the recipient of the coveted 2019 Gourmand World Cookbook Award Category C-14 Latin American. "Cooking in San Germán, Puerto Rico" (Cocinando en San Germán Puerto Rico). I share my Southern California home in the High Desert with my husband of 62 years who shares my passion for cooking, growing our own vegetables, and is also an avid bread baker and amateur photographer, and our menagerie of rescued dogs and water turtles.
My favorite hobby is developing new recipes that are easy, nutritious and fit my busy & health oriented lifestyle. I love cooking for friends & family & baking whole grain breads with my husband of 56 years, Tony. I believe that flavor rules, & every recipe prepared in my kitchen is original & created by me because I think in terms of food and recipes. My inspiration to write cookbooks came from my mother, who published her own recipe book in the '70s, then went on to do cooking demonstrations & teach basic home cooking in the local university. Check out my recipe books; what do you think?
My other books are "doing books" based on my extensive experience in long-term-care communities. They're time savers for busy managers and consultants. If you need basic training for long-term-care staff these books are for you.
