Tula Giannini

Meet Dr. Tula Giannini, PhD, MLS, MM, tenured full professor in the School of Information at Pratt Institute in New York City. I served as Dean of the School from 2004-2017, and then following, during my sabbatical year, I worked on my book, Museums and Digital Culture: New Perspectives and Research, published by Springer in 2019. Reviewed in the Journal, Museum Management and Curatorial Practice by Jennifer Koslow, Associate Professor of History, Florida State University, she describes the book as “a tremendous resource for students, scholars, staff, and artists who work in museums and related cultural heritage organizations” My teaching at Pratt focuses on digital culture, museums, museum libraries and archives, art and design curating, activism, and computational culture, all subject areas reflected in my book. As an interdisciplinary researcher, my focus in the arts extends to music performance and historical musicology. My book, Great Flute Makers of France: the Lot and Godfroy Families, 1650-1900, published by Tony Bingham, London (available on Amazon), grew out of my doctoral work at Bryn Mawr College culminating in a year of research in Paris supported by a Whiting Fellowship. The book presents new archival documents and period wind instruments that creates a fresh historical narrative and is now considered a seminal work that sheds new light on the leading French flute makers and players.
