Matt Mason

Matt Mason served as Nebraska State Poet from 2019-2024, is winner of a Pushcart Prize and his work has appeared in The New York Times, Rattle, Prairie Schooner and hundreds of other publications.

Matt has run poetry programs for the State Department in Nepal, Romania, Botswana and Belarus and served as Executive Director of the Nebraska Writers Collective from 2009-2022. He's won 2 Nebraska Book Awards, and fellowships from the Academy of American Poets and the Nebraska Arts Council.

Mason's 5th book is Rock Stars, released by Button Poetry in 2023. His 4th book; At the Corner of Fantasy and Main: Disneyland, Midlife and Churros; is available from The Old Mill Press. His other books are Things We Don’t Know We Don’t Know (The Backwaters Press, 2006), The Baby That Ate Cincinnati (Stephen F. Austin University Press, 2013) and I Have a Poem the Size of the Moon (Stephen F. Austin University Press, 2020).

His 6th book, Roads, will be published by Button Poetry in December, 2026.
