Matthew Schlueb

Matthew Schlueb studied architecture at Ohio State University and Pratt Institute. His Master of Architecture thesis investigates visual perception, exploring proxemic relationships and thresholds between inhabitant and inhabitable form.

He is a registered architect specializing exclusively in residential design. His practice is based in Pittsburgh, where he regularly speaks with students about nuance in architectural space.

In 2004, he completed the design and construction of his own home, Villa Vuoto, which he deconstructs in his manifesto published in 2008. Subsequent writings continue his search for the source of creativity, which he believes is hidden in the imagination of a child.

To that end, he created the "Why learn to draw?" initiative, to champion childhood curiosity and discovery through drawing. Compiling architectural abstractions into a coloring book, he encourages young and old to strengthen perceptual sensitivities and cognitive visualization through a crayon in hand.

His work contends that home is the most intimate of all space, embracing psychological concepts as often as traditional materials and methods. His innovations in architecture have gained recognition, award and publication throughout North America and Europe. To learn more, visit: www.SCHLUEBarchitecture.com
