Robert John Hughes

Robert John Hughes is Co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Compass Radio Group, an independent radio broadcast firm that owns 102.1 KPRI, San Diego.

Robert pursued a highly successful career in broadcast management with companies like Metromedia, Gulf Broadcast Group, CBS, and US Radio. As Program Director at WASH-FM, Robert created the radio format known as "Adult Contemporary," now one of America's leading and most successful radio formats. In 1991, he co-founded Compass Media Group with Jonathan D. Schwartz and served as consultant to media lenders & investors including Heller Financial, Aetna Insurance, and Chrysler Capital. He has managed and invested in broadcast properties with a combined asset value exceeding $500M.

He is a former White House News Correspondent for Metromedia, a major American TV-Radio broadcaster. During his news media career, Robert interviewed and covered some of the most notable figures in American government and politics. His reporting is cited in a Supreme Court Case on the first amendment. He is the winner of the Major Armstrong Award from Columbia University for his documentary reporting.

Today, Robert is a Marketing Strategist, Brand Advocate and Media Business Entrepreneur. His advertising and marketing campaigns have won numerous Addy Awards as well as the prestigious Radio Mercury Award for effective and creative radio commercials. Robert is also a voice over artist whose clients include Starbucks, United Bank of Switzerland, Lockheed Martin, Volkswagen/Audi, Hertz, and Samsung.
