Nicholas Anthony John Hastings has a mixture of interests. His novel "A Tree Too Far" is about the lead-up to and events of Australia's worst bush fire disaster which occurred on 7th February 2009. Nicholas, who lives near the area of the fire, was an expert witness at the subsequent Royal Commission into the tragedy. His novel presents, in a fast moving story form, the conflicting views of environmentalists, property developers and fire fighters. In writing this book he was keen create a human story in which the reader can identify with the passionately held views of both an environmentalist advocating habitat for wildlife and a mother desperate for the safety of her child, while both living in the same fire prone area.
His book "Physical Asset Management" is a textbook for asset managers and engineers. It presents the principles of physical asset management from concept through to acquisition, operation, maintenance and eventual disposal.
He is also co-author of the statistical reference book "Statistical Distributions".
These three books all come out of Nick's varied life, initially as an army engineer, later as an academic teacher and researcher in business schools, and then as an engineering consultant and educator.
Nick and his wife Tina enjoy life with family and friends in Melbourne, Australia. If Nick is not in the study, he will be found playing table tennis at the local club, or taking a walk in the bush along the banks of the Yarra river, or enjoying the beautiful garden that Tina has created.
