Werner Neff

Werner Neff is a Swiss-born political economist and author who immigrated to the United States after his retirement and settled in Colorado with his American wife.

He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and a master’s degree in economics from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. Before turning to writing, he gained his professional wisdom as an executive in the hospitality industry and later in the mortgage and lending division of a major Swiss bank.

Deeply passionate about democracy, political science, and economics, Neff has devoted more than a decade to studying the origins, principles, values, and constitutional foundations of the American Republic. Approaching the subject as both an admirer and an outsider, he examines American democracy through the eyes of someone who deliberately chose to become part of it.

In The Founders’ Warning: Democracy, Power, and the Survival of the American Republic, Neff imagines the Founding Fathers reunited beyond the boundaries of time to examine the nation they created. Through fictional dialogues set in 1789, 2020, and 2040, they revisit the founding of the Republic, confront today’s political and social divisions, and consider the future of American democracy. Their debates explore liberty, constitutional government, civic responsibility, ethical leadership, political power, and the enduring challenge of preserving a free republic.

In Restore Trust: Economic Solutions to Current Social and Political Issues in the U.S., Neff turns his attention to the economic forces that shape public confidence in democracy. Drawing on his background as a political economist, he examines poverty, low wages, health care, retirement insecurity, political polarization, tax policy, and the widening divide between wealth and working people. The book argues that democracy cannot remain strong when economic structures leave too many citizens discouraged, dependent, or unheard.

His work combines historical fiction, political philosophy, economics, and dramatic dialogue to encourage thoughtful civic reflection rather than partisan debate. Across his books, Neff calls for renewed civic responsibility, ethical leadership, and a deeper understanding of the principles required to preserve a free and enduring republic.

His book Restore Our Democracy received the 2021 Independent Press Award for Political Commentary, and reviewers have described his work as “a stirring call to action” and “insightful, memorable, and thought-provoking.”

Neff writes as an immigrant who chose America, studied its founding principles with deep respect, and believes that an informed citizenry, ethical leadership, and restored public trust remain essential to the survival of American democracy.
