A master carpenter once told me, "There is a difference between twenty years of experience and one year of experience twenty times."

It is my goal to have as many years of experience as I have lived. So far, so good.

I've been a minister, a residential treatment center director for young boys, a school guidance counselor, and a reluctant spiritual director. I've owned a construction company for the past 36 years that provided jobs and life counsel for many ex-offenders and people in recovery.

I have been married over 40 years, but not in a row. I have raised a "Brady Bunch" of six children and have kept over 40 foster children.

I have too many college credits in too many fields. I am a journeyman in too many trades. I usually only learn the hard way and have lived to tell the stories.

My mother tells me I was obsessed with God when I was a child.

I still am.
