Evelyn B. Sherr

Evelyn Brown Sherr (1946- ) has had a life-long fascination with the natural world. Born in Dublin, GA, she grew up on the Atlantic coast of Florida. After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta, she earned a PhD in zoology with a focus on ocean ecology at Duke University In Durham, NC. She was a research scientist at the University of Georgia Marine Institute on Sapelo Island from 1974 to 1990. She and her husband, Barry Sherr, worked as a team researching salt marsh estuaries in Georgia, and then, after moving to Oregon State University in Corvallis, jointly studied upwelling ecosystems off Oregon, as well as arctic and subarctic marine food webs. Sherr and her husband are avid nature photographers and birdwatchers. Their two sons, who spent their formative years on Sapelo Island, live in Portland, OR.
