Sandra Phoenix

Sandra Phoenix is a Southern Oregon, award-winning author dedicated to preserving firsthand accounts of regional and historical events. Her work highlights human experiences in extraordinary circumstances, providing valuable insight for historians, students, and community members.

Her book Firestorm 2020: A Southern Oregon Fire Survivor's Account of 9-8-2020 provides a personal and detailed narrative of the Almeda Drive Fire, capturing the human impact and community response. The book contains a large number of photographs of the wildfire and the destruction it left behind. Her work is held by the Southern Oregon Historical Society, the Rogue Valley Genealogy Society, the Jackson County Library System, making her a recognized source for local history in Southern Oregon.

Phoenix is also the author of That Men Should Fear, a unique account of the experiences and missions of Ray W. Buck, an American Tech Sergeant who served during WWII in England as a B-17 ball turret gunner. Buck flew 28 missions into enemy territory, surviving to become a Distinguished Flying Cross recipient. This award-winning work was recognized by The Next Generation Indie Book Awards in 2023.

Phoenix was also awarded again for her work by The Next Generation Indie Book Awards in 2024, for her children's chapter book, Domino the Firedog, which is a fully illustrated collection of six short adventure stories.

Phoenix has also authored two fantasy books. Toadface, is an original fairy tale, appropriate for all ages, about a kingdom that is forced to wear masks in order to please their king. Clarence and the Wizard of Stinkhorn Forest is a quest story that revisits the kingdom of Rye and includes artwork created by the author.

Sandra Phoenix currently lives in the Rogue Valley of Oregon.
