Catherine Gilbert

Catherine Rittmann Gilbert's primary historical research and writing interest is in the organization and function of the state militias in the American Revolution, occasionally straying into the history of the US Marine Corps. She holds the non-profit Presidential Service Center's Distinguished Service Medal for "Patriot Militiaman In The American Revolution 1775-82" and "True For The Cause Of Liberty: The Second Spartan Regiment In The American Revolution", the latter with increased emphasis on the roles of communities, women, and families in the Southern Campaign of the Revolution.

Born in Fairfield, Alabama, Cathy was educated at the University of Alabama with a B.A. (Speech Pathology) and an M.A. (Audiology). In the course of her professional career she worked with adults and children with speech, language, and hearing disabilities, and traveled extensively, both in the US and internationally. Now retired, Catherine and her husband and sometime co-author Oscar “Ed” Gilbert divide their time between homes in Katy, Texas and in rural Texas.
