Larry Schneiderman

Larry Schneiderman worked at his parent's general merchandise store and sold his first couch when he was 15 years old. As Larry put it, "I worked with my Mom and Dad and learned so much from them. The same could be said by my brothers and sisters. What I learned more than anything was to appreciate work I could love.

Larry's first book, a non-fiction award-winning book named, "Call of the Couch," tells the inspirational story of how his parents started with nothing and how with hard work and a break here and there, they became successful in the retail furniture business in Northern Minnesota.

Some of the stories he tells about his father are not only humorous, but teach lessons in a memorable way. When Larry graduated from the University of Minnesota, he returned to the family business. Over the years, the company continued to grow. In 2017, the furniture company had become well-known and highly respected throughout the state and even wider.

Larry was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2011 and sold the company to his son, Jason.

He still loved the business, but felt the timing was right. When asked what he was most proud of, he responded without hesitation, "My family." From a business perspective, he said, "I suppose it would be that after 69 years, we are still relevant and growing."

A symptom of Parkinson's Disease can be sleep problems. This proved to be an early challenge for Larry. He decided to use those sleepless hours to write a novel, NOBODY KNOWS...What we sweep under the carpet. The book launch was in November, 2017.

He continues to enjoy life with his wife of 47 years, Sheila, in Lakeville, Minnesota. A daughter, Jodi, lives in Washington DC with her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Quinn. The youngest Schneiderman, Jenna, lives with her husband, Collin, in New York City and is expecting a child in February, 2018. Jason as mentioned earlier, owns Schneiderman's Furniture and lives in Plymouth, MN.
