Abhijit Dasgupta

Abhijit Dasgupta is a statistician and data scientist in the greater Washington DC area. He grew up in the tundra of Minneapolis and monsoon-drenched steamy Kolkata (Calcutta), where he got his undergraduate degree at the Indian Statistical Institute, then got a doctorate in Seattle (still rainy, not quite as steamy). He's passionate about making sense of data, and uses open source technology as much as possible for modeling, analyses and visualization. He works with government agencies and companies to help guide the collection of and understand the stories underneath data, be it biomedical studies, internet-of-things, engineering or business. Research-wise, he works at the confluence of the statistical and machine learning communities, understanding how models can be interpreted and improved. He's active in the DC Meetup scene, serving on the board of Data Community DC, organizing one data-related meetup (Statistical Programming DC) and a member of several others.

Abhijit is a martial artist, having practiced the art of Kokikai Aikido for 20 years. He's an avid Googler, loves learning about new things, and is an intermittent blogger. During sunny afternoons you'll often find him in front of the grill with a variety of proteins. Recently he made his debut in amateur theater.
