Dr. A. J. Day is a retired veterinarian who was born in 1933 in Monmouth, Illinois. After graduating from high school in 1951, he served four years in the U.S. Navy as a Communication Technician (now Cryptologic Technician) during the Korean Conflict. After discharge from the navy, he entered the University of Illinois and graduated with a D.V.M. degree in 1961. He was a general practitioner of veterinary medicine in Watseka, Illinois, for nearly 40 years until he retired in December of 2000. His practice included many species of animals including beef and dairy cattle, draft horses, quarter horses, racehorses, swine, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, snakes, birds, monkeys, Yaks, and other exotic animals. During the 1990's, he served on the Board of Directors, as Treasurer, and as President of the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. He is a life member of the American Legion, a Past Commander of his post and a Past Commander of the 18th District of the Department of Illinois of the American Legion. He is 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. Doc, I Needed You Last Night is his first attempt at writing.
