Greg Welbaum was raised on a family farm in west-central Ohio. The Welbaum family has operated farms in Newton Township, Miami County, Ohio since relocating from Lancaster County Pennsylvania in 1803. Greg planted his own vegetable garden at age 8 and sold strawberries and vegetables during the late 1960s and 1970s. Greg did post-doctoral research with the Cell and Molecular Biology Research Group of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters’ Association in Aiea, Hawaii in 1989 before joined the faculty in the Department of Horticulture at Virginia Tech in 1990 where he currently teaches courses on Vegetable Crops, Vegetable Seed Production, Medicinal Plants and Herbs, and World Crops. Greg has authored over 60 publications including 7 book chapters, that have been cited over 1750 times. He is the author of Vegetable Crops Production and Practices published by CAB International. Greg has raised over $1.8 million in grants and contracts to support his research at Virginia Tech.
