Adam McGovern

Adam McGovern is scriptwriter for NIGHTWORLD, the grindhouse-horror, gallows-humor epic from Image Comics (home of THE LIVING DEAD), available March 10, 2015 in bookstores and sites worldwide. With NIGHTWORLD creator Paolo Leandri Adam has made many comics both pop and fringe since 2006, including their co-creation DR. ID, PSYCHOLOGIST OF THE SUPERNATURAL, their dystopian heroes KID LUGER and IDORU JONES, a story in Image’s retro NEXT ISSUE PROJECT and many alternate-history, parallel-reality comics for the indie newspapers POOD and MAGIC BULLET. Adam has also published with Coin-Op Studio, writing the story for Peter & Maria Hoey’s MAD MEN-esque book “BOXED IN,” and created 1940s working-class anti-hero THE SUIT with Reid Psaltis on TripCity.com. Adam has worked with artists Diana Leto, Frank Reynoso and Charles Fetherolf on HiLobrow.com and in the newspapers noted above; he collaborated with Giuseppe Palumbo and Stefano Pavan for the theatrical comics experience FUNNYBOOK/TRAGICBOOK in Brooklyn, USA; and wrote the NIGHTSHIFT LEGACY: THE JAGUAR’S EYE computergame script. With co-writer Andrea Plazzi, Adam adapted some 50 issues of nine comic series from Italy’s GG Studio for the U.S. market in 2010-12, including the all-ages A SKELETON STORY and the probably-should-be-no-ages ROUTE DES MAISONS ROUGES; some comic stores may stock the collections of those whole series and the first seven issues of MEDITERRANEA. As a pop pundit Adam writes regularly on culture for outlets like HiLobrow, the Rumpus, Tor.com and LA Review of Books, and recently did a museum-catalogue essay for the exhibit THE AMAZING SHOEMAKER in Florence, Italy (copies may still be available at amazon, and in some Ferragamo fashion-stores throughout the world). Adam contributed to the MUSICHOUND CD-guide series in the 1990s and 2000s, and edited its World Music volume (available from amazon). He sends and receives transmissions to your brain as a corporate semiotics analyst, and has educational/nonfiction comics about Frederick Douglass and Colonial Pennsylvania forthcoming from two soon-to-be-announced publishers, as well as several projects comic companies don’t even know they want yet.
