E. C. Olson

After spending a diverse thirty-year career in conservation and exploration, E. C. Olson is transitioning into the third act of his life in becoming a full-time writer. "Winds of the Marquesas" is his first published novel, and it is based on actual people and places he's encountered while living in and traveling throughout the Caribbean. He is currently working on the prequel ("A Story of the South") and sequel (untitled) to "Winds", along with a spiritual odyssey, "After Matthias", and a contemporary fiction entitled "One Penny, Two Penny, Three Penny, Four", based on his experiences on Wall Street.

Dr. Olson's long-held fascination with history - especially his family's own history, which includes a Signer of the Declaration of Independence - feeds his writing, especially his historical fiction. His other passions, including the natural environment and the drama of real life, also serve as inspiration for his writing.

While he is a historian, explorer and writer by avocation, Dr. Olson's training is in the environmental sciences, with a Ph.D in Natural Resources Management and Environmental Law and other graduate degrees and study in Archaeology, Historic Preservation, Constitutional Law Studies, Ecology and Education. He is the Founder of The Museum of Natural History of the Florida Keys and was the driving force behind the establishment of The National Historic Register site, "Adderley Town" and "The Adderley Home" (the residents of which being main characters in "Winds of the Marquesas"). Over the years his is work has been supported by grants from prestigious entities such as The MacArthur Foundation, The Knight Foundation, and The Storer Foundation.
