Detroit native Jim Healy realized a boyhood dream when he joined J. Edgar Hoover's FBI to fight crime and communism.
After a two-year Navy enlistment, and a Journalism degree from Michigan State University, he began night law school at the University of Detroit and commenced FBI employment. Three years later he graduated from the FBI Agent's Academy at Quantico, and was soon tracking communist spies on the streets of San Francisco and in the mountains of northern California.
Following the collapse of the Communist Party Underground, he was transferred to FBI Headquarters where he subsequently directed the famed Ten Most Wanted Fugitives Program for thirteen years. Murderers, kidnapers, and bank robbers were his favorite fugitives to place on the "Top Ten" list, and, as a believer in gender equality, he takes credit for adding the first woman to the list.
Returning to the field, he led the search for the first escapees from the "escape-proof" Federal Penitentiary at Marion, Illinois, built as a replacement for Alcatraz. After other challenging field assignments, he retired in Norfolk, Virginia, as Special Agent in Charge.
Another ten-year adventure followed as Vice President of the international intelligence agency INTERTEL, before he settled in Virginia Beach and became involved in civic, fraternal, community, church, and writing pursuits.
FLYING HIGH:FBI vs. THE MOB is the first released manuscript of an extensive collection of FBI-inspired stories, flavored with action, intrigue, humor, and romance, and featuring some colorful characters encountered inside and outside the law.
The proud father of six, he writes from a comfortable perch on the banks of Chesapeake Bay in Virginia Beach, and hopes you enjoy his offerings. Asked if his youthful aspirations were achieved, he strokes his small mustache reflectively. "In many respects, yes. But the battle continues. We still have crooks and traitors out there hell-bent on destroying our way of life. And we still have the FBI!"
LUCKY DAZE: FBI vs. THE MOB-Rematch, a sequel to FLYING HIGH, released on December 1, 2014 continues the adventures of unconventional FBI Special Agent Del Dickerson. More surprising adventures of Special Agent Dickerson will arrive in Spring 2015 with the publication of FBI CODE NAME: S.H.A.R.K.S.
