Pam Spence
Pam Spence is primarily a writer of non-fiction and poetry. She is the author of two books:
Mad About Mead – Nectar of the Gods, published by Llewellyn Worldwide in 1997 and
Glad Rags: Red Panties, Cowgirl Boots and a Sweet Dress to Die For – inspiring clothes and the women who wear them, published by EWH Press in 2014.
Her articles have appeared in many, varied publications including The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus Parent, Ohio Magazine, Llewellyn Organic Gardening Almanacs, Gleanings in Bee Culture, Puppetry Journal and many more. She has been columnist and reporter as well as editor for a number of community and trade publications. Her poetry has appeared in Mother’s Underground Magazine, Creation Spirituality, Original Blessing and a number of other publications.
She was born in post-war England in a small farming village outside of London where her parents worked on large private estates – her father was a Master Gardner, certified through the Royal Horticultural Society and her mother was an executive housekeeper. They emigrated to the USA in the 50s to work on private estates, first in the Hamptons on Long Island and later in the foxhunting country of rural Virginia.
A lifelong and eclectic learner, she attended a number of colleges including Northern Virginia Community College and the University of Virginia; The Ohio State University, Agricultural Technical Institute, Pontifical College Josephenium (BA - Eng. Philosophy), Methodist Theological School in Ohio - finally earning an Individualized Master of Arts degree in Sacred Drama and Transformational Theater from Antioch University Midwest in Yellow Springs, OH.
She has also explored a number of occupations in her life - from the mundane to the delightful – including health insurance claims analyst, hodad and beekeeper, street performer and puppeteer, toymaker, college professor, community minister, arts outreach specialist, writer and editor.
She enjoys discovering adventure of the everyday and interviewing quirky and inspiring people.
She has a particular fondness for curly toed shoes. And hats – she does adore finding and wearing interesting hats.
