Julia Gerlach

Julia Gerlach has been trained as a political scientist and was awarded her PhD from Technische Universität Chemintz (Germany) in 2011 (study on how democracies cope with political extremism).

In her academic career, Julia has worked at State Agrarian University Bila Tserkva (Ukraine), Moscow State Institute for International Relations/MGIMO (Russia), Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), Barents Institute/UiT-Norway's Arctic University, Kirkenes (Norway), and the Aleksanteri Institute/University of Helsinki (Finland).

Her current research focus is on political change in Russia, political protest in Eurasia, and the nexus of religion and politics. Latest publications include 'Color Revolutions in Eurasia' (Springer: 2014) and 'The Role of Religion in Eastern Europe Today' (co-editor, with Jochen Töpfer; Springer: 2014).
