Dr. Klauer is an emergency physician and healthcare executive. He formerly served as the CEO of the American Health Information Management Association, serving the health information management community of more than 90,000 professionals. He also served as System Chief Medical Officer for HCA Florida Ocala and West Marion Hospitals, and previously as the CEO of the American Osteopathic Association. Dr. Klauer served as the Chief Medical Officer, Hospital Based Services, Enterprise Chief Risk Officer, and Executive Director of the Patient Safety Organization for TeamHealth. He holds the following faculty appointments: Assistant Clinical Professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Assistant Clinical Professor, Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Assistant Clinical Professor, Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at LSU Health Sciences Center, Charity Hospital New Orleans, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Klauer earned his Executive JD, with honors, from Purdue Global Law School in 2011. He served as the Medical Editor-in-Chief for ACEP Now and as former Editor-in-Chief for Emergency Physicians Monthly publication. He received the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) Robert Dougherty ACEP/EMF Teaching Fellowship and the ACEP National Faculty Teaching Award. In 2016, he was honored with the ACEP Outstanding Speaker of the Year Award, as well as EMRA’s highest honor, the Joseph F. Waeckerle award. In 2018, Dr. Klauer received the Janice A. Wachtler Educator of the Year Award by the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. In 2021, he was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of the nation’s “Top 150 Most Influential Clinical Executives.”
