Kenneth W. Davis

Kenneth W. Davis is professor emeritus and former chair of English at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. He holds a BA from Drake University, an MA from Columbia University, and a PhD from the University of Michigan.

During the Vietnam War, Davis served in the US Army as a counterintelligence agent and a faculty member at the US Army Intelligence School.

As a communication consultant, he has worked in Botswana, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Taiwan, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as various countries in North America and Europe, serving such organizations as the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Alcoa, the Republic of Botswana, IBM, Thomson, and the International Monetary Fund. He is past president of the Association of Professional Communication Consultants.

Davis is now an independent researcher and author, specializing in the intersections of science, spirituality, and literature, with a focus on systems theory, the Western esoteric tradition, Shakespeare, and Joyce. He has been honored as a fellow and past president of the Masonic Society.

Davis is the author or coauthor of twelve books; his latest is How to Read (and Love) James Joyce's Ulysses. His book Hermeticism: The Secret Tradition was published in 2025 by Wooden Books. An American edition will be available in September 2026.

Davis and his wife, Bette Davis, live in the high desert of New Mexico with their two rescue dogs.
