After watching Top Gun way too many times and earning a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO, Pete Deakon served in the Air Force for eight years as a Captain and pilot. He then worked a downtown nine-to-five office job for one year until realizing that the life of leisure just wasn't for him. In a fit of dementia, he went on to teach ninth grade math for three months until the fog was cleared by the cherished memory of the last day of school. Next, retail management seemed worth a shot (and the only readily available option) so he took it. Deciding seven months of white whine is enough for a lifetime, he quit that job. Never one to turn down a professional opportunity, he tried his hand at roughnecking in the oil fields of Northern Colorado. Seven months later he could almost swing a sledge hammer effectively, but missing his daughter terribly, he left that job (along with a portion of his man card) as well. He is now pursuing a career in writing and selling books, even if it means his financial ruin.
Pete grew up in the suburbs of Kansas City, KS and moved to the Rocky Mountain filled state of Colorado after leaving the Air Force in an attempt to reduce the commute to heaven from ten hours to two. It worked. In addition to his two short novels in contemporary realism, "The Divorce and Doom of Simon Pastor" and "Buried Within", he publishes--at times mildly entertaining--daily blog posts on his Captain's Log which can be found at www.petedeakon.com.
