Dr. Berger received his M.D. from New York Medical College, where he later served as Resident in Internal Medicine. His fellowship training included Infectious Diseases at the Montefiore Hospital Center, Tufts-New England Medical Center and the New York V-A Hospital.; and Clinical Microbiology at the Montefiore Hospital Center. Following service with the U.S. Navy and a W.H.O. Fellowship in Operational Methods, he was appointed Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Infectious Diseases at the New York Medical College.

Dr. Berger is Board Certified in both Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, and holds a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. He has published over 190 professional articles and books, including Introduction to Infectious Diseases and The Healthy Tourist, and is regarded as a foremost expert in his field. He continues to pursue an active schedule of teaching, research and clinical work, and collaboration in the development of Expert and Informatics Technology and systems for the automatic production of electronic media. Dr. Berger is co-developer of GIDEON, an on-line system which can simulate any Infectious Disease scenario – in any country in the world.
