Mike Crane

I graduated from California State University, Fresno with BA and MA degrees, and completed PhD work at the University of Idaho, all in military history. Subsequently, I worked for the US Navy and finally at the US Air Force Academy, where I taught military history in addition to other duties. While at the Air Force Academy, I received the Outstanding Academy Educator Award. A long-time student of military affairs, I was also a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, in which I served as an airborne infantryman.

Some readers have asked me whether the stories in my books are true. When I can get away with it, I'll tell them, "They're novels, works of fiction. All of it happened." All attempts at humor aside, the historical characters in the novels are real, and they do things they really did, and the rest is a product of my imagination. Lt. Joe Marm won the Medal of Honor, for example. But now I'm risking spoilers...
