Fiona Skillen

Fiona Skillen is an author, academic and public speaker living in Glasgow, Scotland. Fiona’s research and writing focuses on the history of sport, in particular the stories of women. In addition to writing she also appears in the media, including most recently BBC Radio Four, 5Live, BBC Scotland, the Telegraph, Herald and Daily Mail contributing insights into the history of sport. She regularly works with schools, museums, theatre productions, local history groups and sports governing bodies on a variety of projects, from talks and workshops to exhibitions. She was selected as a ‘BBC Woman Expert’ in 2014, she was a finalist for the Scottish Women’s Awards for Services to Education in 2023 and was awarded the Sporting Heritage Women’s Heritage Award in 2024 for the impact of her work.

Her latest book A Most Unsuitable Game - is a celebration of the history of women’s football in Scotland through short stories, poems and interviews. Edited alongside authors Julie McNeill and Karen Fraser it is published by Tippermuir Press, Sept 2024.
