Tony R Cox is an ex-provincial UK journalist.
The Simon Jardine series is based on his memories of the early 70s - the time of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll - when reporters relied on word of mouth and there was no internet, no mobile phones, not even a fax machine.
Some people will find plot lines and stories familiar and certain characters are based on real life. These are tales with a thread of reality, when drug smuggling was rife, some police were corrupt, the 'pill' was giving women more freedom and the IRA and 'The Troubles' were an ever-present threat.
The series comprises six books and ends with The Cruel Sky. Jardine has achieved his ambition and is now a London-based national newspaper reporter. As this book is the finale for three main characters, it brings to a conclusion a series of relationships.
