DEAN REA
Dean Rea is a retired newspaper journalist and a retired university professor who lives in Eugene, Oregon. He decided to become a writer when he was five years old and in retirement writes memoir and fiction.
He learned the letterpress printing trade as a boy and began his newspaper career while a student at Southwest Missouri State in Springfield. In 1951 he received a graduate degree in journalism from the University of Missouri.
He edited an armed services newspaper during his Air Force career and later worked as an editor, reporter and photographer for a dozen weekly and daily newspapers in the Midwest and in Oregon, including The Hood River News, The Bulletin in Bend and The Register-Guard in Eugene.
He also taught journalism at the University of Montana, at Biola University in Los Angeles and at the University of Oregon, ending in 2008.
Dean and his wife Lou have spent their vacations for more than a half-century exploring the back roads of Oregon.
