Everybody“s life is different. Mine has gone a different way to yours; the person sitting next to you on the train is different to you. But we all have one thing in common; no matter how many lives we live, we only know about this one.
So why not make it enjoyable? That“s why I write - because it gives me intense pleasure. I hope it gives you a similar pleasure to read what I have written.
I always knew I wanted to write. Reading came first, of course, it was my way of escaping from (literally) grim reality. My background is the poorest of the poor; my father died when I was 8, leaving my mother to struggle on a widow“s pension of the equivalent of 50 pence per week. And even 50 years ago, that did not go far, believe me. So Mum had 3 jobs to keep us going - she worked during the day, had another job in the evenings and yet another at week-ends. Then, there was no help with childcare so I was thrown on my own resources; and quickly found the local library. I could lose myself for hours in the books they let me borrow, and I soon knew that this was what I wanted to do. Give some of the pleasure to other people that these books gave to me.
And now, that is what I do. Please, join me in giving and taking pleasure. I would love nothing more.
