Daniel Velasco Ph.D.

Dr. Daniel Velasco earned a Bachelor degree in both English and French from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), an M.A. in Psychology from Antioch University, and a PhD in International Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Velasco is currently a psychology professor and mental health therapist in Tokyo, Japan. He is an active member in many organizations, including the Japanese Psychological Association (JPA), the American Psychological Association (APA), the Global Organisation for Humanitarian Work Psychology (GOHWP), the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT), and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Dr. Velasco has written works of fiction (novels and plays), but the majority of his work is academic publications. He has written many academic journal articles in the areas of culture, psychology, and language learning, and has contributed book chapters to several commonly used university textbooks, including:

-Developing Leaders for Positive Organizing: A 21st Century Repertoire for Leading in Extraordinary Times (R. Koonce, Ed.); and

-Why Global Health Matters (C. Stout, Ed.).

His most widely read book is The Existential Adulteration of Harry Potter, which covers themes in existential psychology through a fictional story of the title character. The book has also been translated into Japanese.
