Dr. Joe Cole is a writer, philosopher, and educator based in Chapel Hill, NC. He has a Ph.D. in Philosophy and is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Joe is the grandson of coal miners and was the first man is his family to go to a four-year college. While studying engineering as an undergraduate at Penn State University, he was inspired by philosophy courses and by reading the memoirs of Simone de Beauvoir. Joe finished his engineering degree and went on to study philosophy in graduate school at Duke University.
Joe was one of the original residents of Pacifica Cohousing Community in Carrboro, NC, and was a lead facilitator there for several years. He currently lives in Chapel Hill with his wife and daughter.
Joe is the author of I Built My House on a Volcano, a bilingual picture book for all ages in English and Spanish. He is close to completing a book on the morality of war, tentatively titled, The Virtuous Warrior and the War on Terror. He is also working on a memoir about love and relationship.
