Maxine A. Browne

Maxine A. Browne was born in Akron, Ohio and reared by her grandparents Arizona Mattie and Dorsey Walker Boddie. Her parents, Elizabeth and Frank Browne divorced when Maxine was very young and most of her childhood memories are those with her grandparents. Ms. Browne has written 149 Palmer Street, Akron, Ohio..."The Way We Were" that describes her growing up in Akron. Ms. Browne (maiden name) was an educator for over 25 years, beginning her teaching career in Chicago, Illinois. Her love of reading and writing began early when she was in the 3rd grade at Leggett Elementary in Akron, Ohio. Her first original poem, "The Magic Star" was published by the school system.

As Dr. Maxine A. Yancy, she has earned a B.A. with honors in sociology, and a minor in psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.S.Ed in The Teaching of Reading from Chicago State University, and a Ph.D. from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She has two adult children, Michael and Angela.

Ms. Browne's favorite pastimes include being an avid Birder, rescuing feral cats and kittens, writing poetry and reading the poetry of celebrated and distinguished poets such as Naomi Shihab Nye, James Tate, Rita Dove, Mary Oliver, and Elizabeth Bishop.
