George Baran is a professor of engineering at Temple University in Philadelphia, trying to connect with students who are not science or engineering majors and with other readers who may be interested in a down-to-earth explanation of the technology used in health care. He's been teaching undergraduate and graduate students for over thirty years, and have continually modified my approach in order to provide as clear an explanation as possible of technologies ranging from thermometers to PET scans, from orthopedic implants to artificial heart valves. Want to know what those tests are that the doctor ordered? Are diagnostic tests foolproof? How can you tell science from non-science when it comes to advertising claims? He and his co-authors focus on these questions and more in this book.
