Hadar Aviram

Hadar Aviram is a Professor of Law at UC Hastings College of the Law, where she holds the Harry and Lillian Hastings Research Chair and co-directs the Hastings Institute for Criminal Justice. Her work examines the criminal justice system through social science perspectives. She has published extensively on policing, courtroom dynamics, social movements, socio-legal theory, and, in the last few years, the impact of the financial crisis on the American correctional landscape--the topic of her book Cheap on Crime. She is a frequent media commentator on criminal justice issues and the editor/writer of the California Correctional Crisis blog. Prof. Aviram is an open water marathon swimmer and a film noir geek of the highest order, sometimes combining these two pastimes to escape from Alcatraz.
