Tom Crowley

Tom Crowley’s origins are in the American Midwest although virtually his entire adult life has been living in Asia working in positions with the military as a rifle platoon leader in Vietnam, the diplomatic corps, the intelligence field and with corporations marketing or investing in electric power generation until the Asian financial crash of 1997.

Living in Thailand at the time of the crash he decided to explore a different path in life and volunteered at the Mercy Centre, a Bangkok based NGO working to provide education to the poorest slum children and provide shelter for street children. His writing reflects his varied experiences living and working in Asia. He is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Military Writers Society of America. He divides his time between a home in Kensington, Maryland in the U.S. and Bangkok.

His primary writing interest is in creating good action/adventure fiction built around the character of Matt Chance, an ex US Army ranger wounded in action and retired in Bangkok.

Reviews in the Matt Chance series include mentions such as “A politically jolting novel of intrigue and a startling fabric of fiction” for Viper’s Tail from the Nation, Bangkok. Murder in the Slaughterhouse was awarded a Bronze medal by the Military Writer’s Society of America. Bangkok Gamble was cited as a “High octane thriller” by Readers Favorite. His latest book (August 6, 2026) in the Matt Chance series is Opium Dreams. In this book Matt Chance’s challenges come from more than the criminal networks he is investigating. What makes the story especially intriguing is the uncertainty over where organized crime ends and political power begins.
