Tom Crowley

Tom Crowley’s origins are in the American Midwest. His education was at Marquette University and the John Hopkins University School of International Studies (SAIS) in Washington DC. His career has spanned service in the U.S.. Army as an infantry rifle platoon leader serving in combat in Vietnam where he was wounded and awarded medals for valor. It was exposure to Japan, during a period of medical treatment that led to his fascination with Asia. He joined the U.S. State Department as a Foreign Service Officer specializing in economic analysis of Asian countries. He subsequently joined the General Electric company of the U.S. to become the first country manager in Korea. He continued working with GE and other power generation and investment firms, living in almost every country in Asia for a twenty-five year period until the Asian financial crash in 1997.

Living in Thailand at the time of the crash he decided to explore a different path in life and volunteered at the Mercy Centre, a Bangkok based NGO working to provide education to the poorest slum children, provide shelter for street children and treatment for children and adults with Hiv/Aids. Tom has continued with programs assisting street kids to this time. His writing reflects his varied experiences living and working in Asia. He is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the Military Writers Society of America. He divides his time between a home in Kensington, Maryland in the U.S. and Bangkok.

His primary writing interest is in creating good action/adventure fiction built around the character of Matt Chance, an ex US Army ranger wounded in action and retired in Bangkok. Tom enjoys the writing of both Connellys, Michael and John, Elmore Leonard, and Stephen Hunter amongst others.
