I am a Professor of Energy and Society based at the University of Tasmania (UTAS), Australia. I have diverse research interests to do with how things and policies change. In particular I have focused on how climate change has driven innovation - in housing, energy, forest management, and financial accounting. I am currently funded by the Australian Research Council to research innovation in utilities through investigation of new types of electricity meters and smart grids. I am a sociologist/human geographer - so the kinds of questions I am interested in are about how early experiments with smart grids in Australia have affected subsequent policies, programmes and initiatives, and the politics of standard setting around smart grids.
