F. Martin Harmon

A veteran journalist and communications professional with over 45 years of writing experience, F. Martin Harmon was most recently public relations director at Georgia’s Roosevelt Warm Springs. For 13 years he handled all communications for the historic rehabilitation facility founded by Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1927. Now retired from state service, he continues to write as a free-lance author and travel photographer living in Senoia, Georgia.

Previously a sports writer at two Tennessee newspapers (Johnson City Press Chronicle and Nashville Banner) and sports information director at three Division I southern universities (Austin Peay State in Tennessee, Nicholls State in Louisiana, and Georgia State in Atlanta), Harmon was recipient of 16 state or national public relations, marketing, and tourism awards while at Roosevelt Warm Springs.

The author of a fictional, Civil War based novelette in 2000, Miracle at Manassas, he is more recently the author of The Warm Springs Story: Legacy & Legend, a 200-year history of the little Georgia town FDR made famous for polio treatment (June 2014); Charles “Lefty” Driesell: A Basketball Legend, the first biography of a legendary college coach (November 2014); Long Haul Legacy: SMC3 and the Evolution of Motor Freight, the story of how one of the original trucking rate bureaus played an integral part in the history of the motor freight industry (January 2016); and The Roosevelts and Their Descendants: Portrait of an American Family (July 2017), an inside look at arguably the most influential family in American history.
