Though literature touches every part of my life, nothing matters more to me than God, home and family. In earlier years I worked as a critical care registered nurse until choosing to be full-time wife and mother. An avid reader, I raised our children with the classics. In difficult parenting moments, I learned that distraction with an adventuresome story was usually better than head-on confrontation. So, many of my fables were early parenting moments woven to teach a principle I hoped my child would grasp. I love the lens of stories. Personal experiences, fables, and parables can brighten a moment and help me discover levels of application— from the inside out. That is why stories are important; they are a quiet teacher. They help me see . . . me.
I am a proponent of child safety and character education, and have been intently involved in the cause of children. I have taught music privately to children and young adults. I have tutored children in core subjects to augment elementary and secondary education. As a teacher, lecturer and motivational speaker, I have taught civic and church groups. I have worked in the research and editing of both fiction and historical literary works.
I was raised in a rural community of farms and orchards. I married Larry Hancock, the love of my heart. Our children are raised and now they bring to us a new generation of beautiful grandchildren. We delight in these little ones! Each child opens to us a new world of wonder and hope and joy. That’s why they’re called grand! Seated on my lap is one of our grandsons, Jackson.
