Carolyn Mueller

Carolyn Mueller was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, where she was a Nerinx Hall Marker (yes, that's right, marker). After studying Creative Writing at DePauw University, a happy accident gave Carolyn the opportunity to become a zookeeper at the Saint Louis Zoo.

Her first book, Bubbles the Dwarf Zebu: A Story About Finding a Home at the Saint Louis Zoo is based on one of the animals she cared for in the Children's Zoo.

Today, Carolyn finds herself living the unusual duel life of an Author/Zookeeper, by day caring for the lovely, clawed and toothy creatures of the Carnivore Department and working on stories, essays and blogs by night.

As a proud resident of St. Louis, Missouri, Carolyn's second book, Lily: A True Story of Courage and the Joplin Tornado, tells the story of two hometown Missouri heroes while her third book, Happy Birthday, St. Louis! sums up 250 years of local history for kids.

Carolyn loves to share her stories with children and will happily attend school and library visits. See the "Teacher Resources" page for more information.

Look for Dizzy and the Gashouse Gang, a new, historical, picture book for St. Louis kids and Cardinals fans of all ages--coming soon!
